In a city of 1.1 million residents, only 22,000—roughly 2%—ride bicycles annually. Yet, maintaining bike lanes costs Edmontonians $11 million each year. While cycling offers benefits, this expenditure is disproportionate when weighed against the needs of the vast majority who rely on vehicles and public transit for daily travel.

To better serve Edmonton’s priorities, I will propose council halt bike lane expansion and phase out dedicated bike lane maintenance in Edmonton.

We will reallocate those resources to infrastructure that benefits all residents by enhancing vehicle infrastructure and public transit systems.

This includes improving road conditions and ensuring reliable transit options. By focusing on the transportation modes used by the majority, we can address pressing needs like traffic congestion and accessibility.

This decision reflects a commitment to fiscal responsibility and responsiveness to the majority’s needs, ensuring Edmonton’s transportation system serves everyone efficiently.
